Most patients listen to Dr. Anchors' speeches and read the written materials. They try to do the Six Lessons. They take their medicines as prescribed. As a result most patients lose weight steadily until they regain their good health.
But not all. Some patients do not listen to Dr. Anchors or read the materials. They don't learn the Six Lessons, and they are spotty in taking their medications. They don't lose weight. Some don't return to the office, missing the opportunity to avoid early death & disability from obesity.
But many patients do come back, often for many visits, and Dr. Anchors struggles to find ways to help. He spends thirty minutes with each patient, tailoring the talk to help each specific patient. Patients aren't robots, and they're not groups--they are individuals.
Starting in October he will offer Group Sessions, for six women on six successive Wednesdays. He will teach rough, simple calorie counting, and other methods. he will take the group to a grocery store, and take them to a restaurant. At the last visit/graduation party, Dr. A expects to throw most of the cake out.
For men he has a program whereby the men must e-mail Dr. Anchors everyday to reveal what they weigh, what they ate and what they did the previous day. No excuses. Every day.
